Sidney Poitier
Sidney married Juanita Hardy from 1950 to 1965. they had four children Beverly Poitier- Henderson, Pamela Poitier, Sherri Poitier and Gina Poitier. Then he married Joanna Shimkus in 1976. Their two children are Anika Poitier and Sydney Tamiia Poitier.
POITIER'S EARLIER LIFE
Sidney Poitier was born February 20, 1927,in Miami, Florida. He was born prematurely to Bahamian parents. When he became of age, 10 years old, they moved Nassau . When Poitier was 16 he was sent away to his brother because he was such a troublemaker. At the age 16 he moved from the South to New York City to earn money to support himself. Poitier made deal that he would be a janitor for the New York City's African Negro Theater if they give him acting lessons. Poitier played in " Days of Our Youth" as an understudy for Harry Belafonte. In 1950s Poitier moved to hollywood stages playuing in " No Way Out", "Cry", and " the Beloved Country".
Sidney Poitier has been in supporting roles ever since he started the acting business until he was nominated for the Academy Award.He started reaching new heights with his acting career. Later he won the Academy Awards, in 1964, which he was the first African American Actor to except the Oscar. Poitier was the first African American to defy racial stereotypes.
Sidney Poitier was the first African American to break the barrier of the racial stereotyping against black people in general to be actors and actress. He was born poor and had to work on his parents, Reginald James Poitier and Evelyn Poitier's, farm 'til it failed then they had nothing to do then Poitier was a troublemaker and to get sent away to his brother,Cyril Poitier to get a job. When was 16 years old he left the the south to go to New York to menial jobs to support himself for that moment . Then he made a deal with the African Negro Theater that he be a janitor then they would give him acting lesson for free.He married Juanita Poitier and got four daughters then married Joanna Shimkus then got two children from her. Poitier was given an Oscar because he blew all the out of the water with "Lilies on the Fields" and this is why I choose Sidney Poitier as my project because this tells me I can accomplish anything if I put my mind to it.
